KS3 - KS4 Transition
Choosing options for Key Stage 4 is an important transition as it may be the first time a young person has put serious thought into their adult life. To ensure our students are fully informed of the choices available to them we hold an Options Evening in February for Year 9 students and their parents. Information about all the different subjects is available and teachers offer advice on suitable courses for individual students. Following this each student is given the opportunity to have a personal interview with a member of staff to assist them with their option choices.
Each student will follow their own ‘pathway’ which should reflect both their interests and ability. For some this will be a mix of traditional GCSE courses. Others may choose to follow a more vocational route to include a college or work placement.
At the beginning of Year 10, a Transition Evening is held to which both students and their parents are invited. All students receive a comprehensive booklet detailing fully the courses, coursework deadlines, information about controlled assessments, examination dates and other relevant information, a copy of which is available to download below. Practical suggestions and advice about coping with the increased workload are offered and how parents can support their son/daughter through what can often be a very demanding period of time. Former students also share their experiences and strategies that they have found useful in the past.
