Harvest is a time of year where the Saint Aidan’s community comes together to collect and donate boxes upon boxes of food and toiletries to our local community foodbanks. Sadly, we realise there is an increasing need for families to access foodbanks all year round; but we have the power as a school community to help! This was the inspiration behind our new initiative – ‘Foodbank Fridays’.
Donations have been brought into form groups throughout the week and today students and staff from across school collected their gifts together. The collected boxes have been collected by our local foodbank Help PKE (Preesall and Knott End) and will help local people who are feeling the cost of living pinch.
Assistant Headteacher Mr Eccles commented “We have been blown away, yet again, by the generosity of our school community. As a school at the heart of the Over Wyre community, our families really do want to help out the most needy and vulnerable. We are so grateful for all of the donations. One of the boxes of food that was donated from form B1 had a printed note on the top of it. It simply read ‘My strength is a gift that I use to help others and make a difference’. I think this sums up perfectly the Saint Aidan’s approach to charity.”
We will be collecting again in the Summer Term and look forward to having a similar bounty to share with our local community.
