Our Year 7 Girls Football team have been crowned Fylde and Wyre Champions after an incredible unbeaten season. Here’s how they did it, in their own words:
“Firstly, as a team, it was a great accomplishment to reach the final. On the way, we beat Rossall 12-0 and drew 2-2 with Hodgson. This meant we qualified with a better goal difference. The final was to be against Lytham High.
During the final, we dominated possession and had the upper-hand. At half-time the game was goalless, but we’d missed many chances! In the second half, however, we were much stronger and we opened the scoring with Lilly Crossley scoring an excellent solo goal. The next goal was from a great assist by from our goalkeeper, Eleanor Hughes-Hutchings; this, too, was scored by Lilly. Next, Hannah Sissons ran up the pitch and cut back a pass straight to… you’ve guessed it! Lilly completed her hattrick.
Near the final whistle, a player from Lytham handled the ball in the box and we decided that Hannah Sissons should take it. Hannah scored, in off the post, to make it 4-0. Towards the end, there were a couple of mistakes, but this does not take away from a fantastic 4-2 victory. It was a great achievement – the first of many, we hope.”
