Year 11’s Logan Porter has been making great waves in the world of martial arts. His achievements in WKKC (the World Karate and Kick Boxing Council) have been an open secret amongst some members of his family, friends and a few school staff. Now it’s time for him to share his immense success more widely. Logan takes up the story himself…
“Since the beginning of the year I decided that I wanted to qualify for the England squad within World Karate and Kickboxing Council. I have been to numerous competitions in order to build up my skills and techniques.
This year’s nationals were held in Worksop on two separate occasions where I had to qualify first time for points fighting in my age category and the second time for karate forms in extreme open hand and extreme weapons.
In points fighting it was an extremely tough round of 16 top competitors from all over the country. I manage to place 3rd taking home bronze. In both my open hand & weapons category I placed 1st.
Since qualifying I have invested my time in developing my skills and have been training 2 hours per session, 5 times a week. This year I have been to 10 major competitions to keep building on this and been successful in bring home the following:
English Open: Silver in Points fighting 13-15 under 55 Kilo
England Championship: Bronze in points fighting 13 – 14 Under 60 Kilos
Revolution: 2 Golds (extreme open hand & extreme weapons), 1 silver in musical weapons
NSKA Inter Comp: Gold in Points fighting 13-15 under 60 Kilo
European Open: Gold in Points fighting 13-15 under 60 Kilo
WMAC: 5 Golds – Extreme open hand, Extreme weapons, musical weapons, Points fighting Under 60 Kilos, Points fighting under 55 kilos & best overall competitor of the day
Leeds Open: Silver in 12-16 under 55, bronze in 12-16 under 60 kilos & Gold in team fight points fighting 12-16
Revolution Open: Gold in extreme open hand, 2 x Silver in weapons & Gold in Points fighting 14-16 under 60 kilo’s
IMAC: 4 Golds (extreme forms, extreme weapons, points fighting under 55 kilos and team fight 14-16 points) 2 x Silver in 13-16 points fighting and 13-16 Open weight
Ippon: Gold in creative weapons and Points fighting 13-14 under 60 kilos, 1 Bronze in extreme weapons
Highlight of all my competition was competing at WMAC where I won 5 Golds (Gold in every category) and won best overall competitor on the day and was offered another spot on WMAC England squad.
I feel honoured and privileged to be able to represent England in the following categories : Points fighting under 60kilo, Open weight category ( 13-15), Tag team points fighting (13-15), extreme open hand, extreme weapons & musical weapons.”
